You are the cool mom that brought cupcakes!!! Good for you!! I was shy as well and was mortified when celebrations came around. Can't add anything new to that. Again, you get kudos for volunteering and being part of your son's school and a double thumbs up for making a kid smile.

I'm glad my children don't have to grow up being afraid of cupcakes
by Ilovebirthdays inyesterday, i brought a batch of cupcakes to my son's school.
in passing them out, i started to give one to one of the children, who was a jw.
he immediately started freaking out and screaming "no thank you" over and over.

My Daughter Just Graduated From College!
by GoingGoingGone inshe was about 13 or 14 when i first started having serious doubts about the wts.
when i informed her of my doubts a couple years later, she took the information and ran with it.... she never looked back.
i told her she could be whatever she wanted to be if she only worked hard enough.

I am so happy for you and for her!! Isn't funny how relatives get bragging rites when something like this happens? My son is leaving the nest too for a very notable college. Congrats!!!!! (Don't you wish we could do it all over again for us?)

Why are they so anal about assembly badges?
by highdose inthey insist you must wear you and whats more it must be placed in clear view for everyone else to see.. i have been challenged before now " sister!
are you wearing your badge!?
" it made me wonder why?

Me and the hubby always wore the badges as well. It always made holes in my clothes!!! I am sure the badge holders have come a long way now. When my children were born the stinking badges came off----mothers can relate to this----your kids when they are on your lap grab at them or even poke themselves with the edge of holder. If the pin came unhooked your boob would get stuck!! OUCH. Good times.

Funny stuff!!. My mom told me there was a time when you had to turn in your written review and it was graded. What is up with that? I did like the scripture match up as a kid. It reminded me more of a game. I would glance over at my parents answers and they were star pupils!! Bathroom breaks were a big no-no in my family, you had better have the runs or you were in trouble. My dad's reasoning was that if we could sit through a T.V. show without getting up and going to the bathroom then we could surely sit through the meeting.

Hello Purplesofa!! Haven't posted in a long time. Had to chime in on this thread. Facebook is the best thing that could have happenned to this cult. Recently I did my own "finding friends" on Facebook. What and eye-opener. I have found so many Jw's that are supposed to be "in" but are friends with ones who are either disfellowshipped or on fading terms. Most are clubbling and are posting pics that are not JW approved. In other words---they are having a fun time. Hmmmm, it seems being a witness in name only is very easy now. How times have changed. There is a very gaggy site that is called "Examining the Scriptures Daily". Who are they trying to kid? Saw several names on that site that are really working the system. So, I feel that the big boys in NY will never stop the Witnesses from being on Facebook. ( Check out Jehovahs Witnesses on Facebook) This is from my hometown--many are leaving!!!

Why can a JW get a boob job but not a tatoo???
by cognac inthat makes no sense to me.
you'd get yourself in a jc for a tatoo but i've seen a couple of jws get a boob job and nothing happen... the hypocrisy in endless... .

Hi Cognac,
I agree with the above comments. I, too, know that in Southern Cally that tatoos and boob jobs, facelifts are very common. They can't do anything about it because so many are doing it. Back in the early 90's permanent tatooing such as eyelining and tatooing of the lips were the rage. They strongly advised that this was worldly but only the ones who wanted to hear that nonsence listened. The best was when a servants daughter graduated from highschool and her "gift" from mommy was a boob job. Mom had one many years earlier. Daddy bought her a BMW. Gotta love the witnesses from Southern CA. I haven't heard of any elder meetings occuring from getting a tatoo. Perhaps it depends on the area.
Oh--welcome back

Hi,
Just curious if anyone has ever gone to this school and if they had a good experience. It is one of those "career colleges" you see advertised on the T.V. I have an appointment with one of the advisors next week. Googled the school and have read some horror stories---then I read wonderful reviews about them. This mom has to do something ASAP. Of course, growing up in this religion we were never encouraged to get an education. Let's face it--you have to have a degree or something equivalent to get started in a profession. I'm looking into the pharmacy technician program. All thoughts are welcome. Just don't want to get scammed.

Wow, what a photo! Can you even imagine being there? Thought it was odd that the people attending were wearing suits or dress clothes. They can afford the proper attire but not a safe place to have their meetingss? If the meeting was in a dark muddy cave those people would still be wearing suits and dresses!!

You know you're snapping when you call the cable company to reset your box
by gubberningbody inand you go off on them asking to talk to someone who made the decision to have some computer try to feign to talk to you instead of just letting you reset your box by pressing a number.
then after pressing zero a million times find yourself talking to someone in guatemala about how this is making you crazy and did they know that the us govt toppled a duly elected government in their country because it was interfering with the chickita banana company?.

Farkel - My parents had that album!!! Grew up on that type of music. Rock music and "Disco" were from Satan. HAHAA. You went to Dodger Stadium too? The lines were incredible for the cafeteria. You had to stand to eat and I was such a little kid that my head never cleared the table. I can never look at carrot salad without thinking of Dodger Stadium!!!
I quit - Leimert truly was a gem. It was in a bad part of town, my parents always kept asking us if our doors were locked. Funny.
Dagney - I had forgotten that it was remamed the "Woodland Hills Assembly Hall". You are right--the parking was strange.
Gregor - Wow, they actually had a memorial for a C.O. there? Kinda like Michael Jackson.
